journeying with Christ to the Cross

Journeying with Christ to the Cross

I am wondering how is everyone spiritual journey with the Lord Jesus now. I've been using some devotional materials to help me thinking about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Despite my busy schedule, I read the purple booklet "Journeying with Christ to the Cross" in the morning before I start my day. Read either "Everyday with Jesus" or "Upper Room" at night. I wanna tell you how much I am touched as I read His Words with an attitude expecting God to speak to me, I begin to see that God wanna me to adopt a humble attitude towards people. He shows me the message that it is my HEART that matters most. No point in performing all kinda religious ritual, yet my heart is far away from Him.

When we fast & pray, give tithing and do charity, remember to also demonstrate justice, mercy and faithfulness to others (Matt 23:23).

I wanna share with you this song that has been helping me when I am upset and distracted.

Still
Hide me now

Under Your wings
Cover me

With in Your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father You are King over the flood
I will be still know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

When the oceans rise and thunders roar

I will soar with You above the storm
Father You are King over the flood
I will be still know You are God

During this season of Lent, are we walking with Lord Jesus?
Or He is walking all alone to the Cross?

Knowing who God is
For reading & meditation - luke 11:1-13
"When you pray, say: "Father…" (John 17:2)

We consider now the opening words of our Lord's prayer in John 17, bearing in mind the prayer Christ construct for his disciples in luke 11. The word Father appears at the beginning of both prayers. "Father," Jesus said in John 17:1, "the time has come." Our Lord not only taught his disciples to address God as "Father" but he did so himself.
Why is it important to address God as "Father"? Well, one reason is that it turns our minds away from ourselves to our Father who is in heaven. Then and only then, can we get the right perspective on things. Our biggest failure in prayer begins when we rush into God's presence and start presenting our petitions w/o any regard to who God is. This only serves to concentrate our attention on what is already troubling us, and increases our awareness of our lack. When we begin by focusing on God as someone who takes a Father's interest in his children, and concentrate on him, thinking about his greatness, his power and his eagerness to give, the first thing we receive is a calm spirit. The tendency to plunge into a panicky flood of words leaves us, and we begin to realize that cos God is our Father ther is an entirely diff way of looking at matters.
Also the very mention of the word "Father" helps us understand that we are not engaging in a theological dialogue; we are talking to our Father. And "Father" is a relationship word; we cant call God "Father" w/o acknowledging that we are his children. No prayer can be true prayer unless we understand that when we talk to him as a child talks to a loving father.

Prayer:
O Father, with what joy I say that word. Help me never to forget that prayer begins with adoration, not with supplication - with the focus on you, not me. Forgive me that so often I get things the wrong way round. In Jesus' name. Amen.

season of lent

Journey together with Jesus in the season of Lent

Prayer reveals the pray-er

For reading and meditation - John 17:1-26
"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil ones" (v15)

There is no better way to prepare our hearts for the Easter season, I believe, than by a serious comtemplation of the prayer of our Lord found in John 17. It is to this sublime passage, therefore, that I intend to draw your attention in the weeks that lie ahead. Today we begin by reading the whole prayer, and then we shall focus on it verse by verse and phrase by phrase.

It is customary to refer to the prayer Christ framed for his disciples which is recorded in luke 11 and matt 6 as the Lord's prayer, but in reality that was not a prayer Jesus used Himself - at least not in its entirety. I cannot imagine him praying "forgive us our sins" for he had no sins to forgive. In John 17, however, we see our lord himself at prayer. The prayer we are about to study was prayed in the shadow of the cross, just moments b4 jesus left the upper room and went with his disciples into the dark valley of the kidron.

We can tell a lot about people by the way they pray. When I was a pastor I could frequently detect where individuals were spiritually by listening closely to their prayers. Something they would say, a phrase they might use, would be like a window into their soul. I would then encourage them to open up to me to share what was going on in their life. Often, though not always, our conversation would lead to the discussion of some important issues affecting their life.

What do we learn about our Lord as we listen to him pray within hours of being crucified? One thing we discover is that though his body would soon be stretched on a cross, his primary thoughts were not himself but the wellbeing of his disciples. The prayer reveals the pray-er. And how!

Prayer:
Gracious and loving Father, unfold to me by your Spirit the riches and depth of this, my savior's prayer. May my experience be that new light breaks forth from your Word as I meditate on it day by day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Jesus be the centre of my life

To Yee Shuang,

wow u've learnt so much from the sunday's video. it's one of e touching video i ever seen. artaban walks his talk, and lives his faith. it's comforting to noe tt at the end, Jesus praised artaban tt he has offered his best to Him as he did it onto one of the least of these brothers of Jesus, he has done it onto Him (matt 25:35-40). artaban has offered his life for Jesus.
just lyk artaban, sometimes we'll also face troubles or problems in life, but he didn't give up. he cont to give his life for those pple around him who are in need. he even bothered to stop to help, to care and to educate. he didn't waste his life in the end!!! deep in him, i believe he has a conviction he wants to fullfil.

i was reminded by this song we sang during sunday service.

Jesus be the centre
Verse 1:
Jesus, be the centre
Be my source, be my light
Jesus

Jesus, be the centre
Be my hope, be my song
Jesus

Chorus:
Be the fire in my heart
Be the wind in these sails
Be the reason that I live
Jesus, Jesus

Verse 2:
Jesus, be my vision
Be my path, be my guide
Jesus (2X)

Im so relieved after sharing during the exco prayer meeting. i felt tt i really too stressed up and den i cant control my tears. my life now seems is in a mess. i was lyk i cant take control of my life, and sometimes i can feel quite frustrated. the timetable seems so messy nowaday cos i supposed to be at the fsc on tues & thurs only, but recently i got to go down on other days like monday, tue, thurs and fri. i felt i cant concentrate in studies, and no time for me to do research and writing the papers. the deadlines are coming. how can i finish 3 major papers? deadlines on 22 march, and 17 april.

felt frustrated, stressed, panic ...
i noe i got to manage the time well enough to finish my papers and fullfil my attachment at the fsc.
THANK YOU GOD tt the praying for one another on sunday afternoon helps me to focus back to God again and trust tt He will see me thru.

and this song is ringing again in my ears. its comforting n i still want to praise Him for He is my God.
THANK YOU GOD once again He is the ONE can give me strength to face whatever situation.

BE UNTO YOUR NAME
We are a moment You are forever
Lord of the ages God before time
We are a vapor You are eternal
Love everlasting reigning on high

Holy Holy Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Highest praises honor and glory
Be unto Your name

Be unto Your name

We are the broken You are the healer
Jesus Redeemer mighty to save
You are the love song we’ll sing forever
Bowing before You Blessing Your name
